Local Driving Guide - It is recommended that you carry a first-aid kit, a warning triangle, a spare bulb kit and a fire extinguisher; and, if you wear glasses, put a spare pair in the car. In Ireland you will drive on the left and seat-belts are compulsory throughout the vehicle. Children under 12 years are not allowed in the front. The minimum driving age is 17, and you must carry your driving licence and your vehicle registration document at all times. Try to avoid the narrow R roads for a while until you get used to driving in Ireland. Speed limits are as follows: 112km/h on freeways/motorways; 100km/h on regular non-urban roads; and 50km/h in urban areas. At the time of writing, tolls are payable at two points in the Dublin area, but tolls are being introduced on some new motorways. You will need cash for these tolls, as credit cards are not acceptable. Parking regulations are strictly applied, especially in Dublin. You will find parking meters and Pay and Display car parks. Of course, there are fines if you overstay your welcome in theses spaces! Do NOT drink and drive. |
